This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2019) is a big one for Pindrop, which has taken the opportunity to announce its expansion beyond the call center market.
The company’s flagship solution has thus far been aimed primarily at delivering anti-fraud security to call centers, combining voice recognition with the analysis of metadata associated with inbound calls in order to help identify potential fraudsters. Now, the company says, it’s looking to bring this approach to new areas associated with smart homes and the Internet of Things, as well as connected cars and voice-based virtual assistants.
The move appears to be the result, at least in part, of a push from Allegion, which became a major stakeholder in Pindrop toward the end of last year. In a statement, Allegion Ventures President Rob Martens explained, “Following Allegion Ventures’ strategic investment in Pindrop during its Series-D funding round, we are exploring how to leverage our unique technologies to drive both improved security and seamless access.”
Martens added that Allegion possesses brands in the consumer, commercial, educational, and healthcare markets that possess “tremendous potential for voice authentication solutions”.
Pindrop’s announcement also asserted that its Voice Identity APIs could deliver strong security to virtual assistant platforms such as Alexa, Cortana, Bixby, and so on. And with respect to the automotive sector, Pindrop said that it “is partnering with several of the largest global automotive manufacturers to provide a personalized and secure voice-enabled experience for drivers.”
Details concerning Pindrop’s other expansion efforts are likely forthcoming; in any case, in making its big announcement at the biggest trade show in consumer electronics, the company has likely perked some ears.
