Zwipe Tech to Enable Biometric Card Trials in Middle East

October 16, 2020

Zwipe and Inkript are working together to bring contactless biometric payment cards to the Middle East. To that end, Inkript has placed a small-scale order for cards that will be used in a series of biometric card pilots, with plans to scale up to mass production with multiple banks in 2021 if those pilots go well.

The cards themselves will be based on the Zwipe Pay ONE platform, which brings hardware, software, and an operating system together to create a secure element for fingerprint cards. The new order builds on the existing relationship between Inkript and Zwipe, which began in 2019 when the two companies joined forces to advance the development of biometric cards.

Inkript is planning to produce cards for banks throughout the Middle East. The company indicated that the cards will help meet the growing need for contactless alternatives to cash in the wake of COVID-19.

“Our customers are increasingly demanding safer and more secure payment options,” said Inkript Managing Director Riad Itani. “Contactless are the future of payments, and banks are ready to dive into new technologies that support consumers’ changing behaviors towards money, hygiene, comfort, and overall well-being.”

The news comes shortly after Zwipe announced that it would be providing Pay ONE technology for a new biometric payments solution from TietoEVRY. Watchdata Technologies will also be using Pay ONE to enable biometric payments with various wearable devices.
