Zwipe and IDEX Biometrics have teamed up to create a more comprehensive authentication system for biometric cards. To that end, Zwipe will be integrating IDEX’s fingerprint sensors into its own Zwipe Pay ONE platform, which includes the operating system and necessary software for a single-chip biometric secure element solution.
The two companies will work together to market the joint solution. They will also try to come to a more formal cross-licensing agreement for their respective intellectual properties. Together, IDEX and Zwipe are hoping their efforts will encourage the mass adoption of biometric payment cards as the market moves towards commercialization.
“We believe the combination of Zwipe Pay ONE with IDEX has strong potential to become a market leading solution,” said IDEX Biometrics CEO Vincent Graziani.
“We are ideally positioned to take a leading position in the biometric payments market, providing manufacturers with energy efficiency and biometric performance at industry-leading manufacturing costs,” added Zwipe CEO André Løvestam.
The agreement formalizes the independent relationship between IDEX and Zwipe, who are both involved in a new F.CODE biometric card pilot with IDEMIA. IDEX fingerprint sensors have already appeared in two recently certified biometric payment cards. The first is a FEITIAN card that has been certified for the China UnionPay network, while the second is from an undisclosed tier 1 card manufacturer in Europe.
