Payment Cards Maker Becomes US Distributor for SmartMetric Biometric Card Solution

New Jersey-based Protec Secure Card (PSC) has become the national distributor for SmartMetric’s biometric security cards, the companies have announced.

PSC is a credit card maker certified to manufacture Visa, Mastercard, and Discover Cards. As such, it could prove to be a critical ally as SmartMetric seeks to bring its biometric cards, which feature an embedded fingerprint sensor, to the payments sector.

In a statement announcing the partnership, SmartMetric called PSC “a leader using the most updated equipment and technologies in their secure production facility.”

News of the collaboration comes amid growing excitement over biometric smart cards and payment cards, with a flurry of activity over the past year and change from biometrics specialists and major players in the payments industry. With Mastercard expected to launch biometric credit cards this year – possibly in the first half – a boom is anticipated as the mass market becomes familiarized with the new security technology.
