Healthcare technology developer Key Source International (KSI) has unveiled a new ePrescription device, which it will showcase at the 2015 HIMSS Conference. Called the KSI-1900 DuoID pod, the device meets DEA standards and includes a FIPS 201-certified biometric sensor as well as a Wave ID dual band PcProx RFID badge reader.
Speaking in a press release, KSI CEO Phil Bruno emphasized the efficiency and ease of integration that the KSI-1900 DuoID pod offers in a healthcare environemnt, explaining that it “gives hospitals and pharmacies the ability to have a clean efficient solution integrated into one elegant desktop device.” Bruno also pointed to the pricing and security as major advantages offered by the device, calling it a “cost-effective, strong, dual factor authentication solution” for the healthcare sector.
Of course, KSI’s is not the only ePrescription tool on the market. As medical professionals increasingly rely on digital solutions for patient records management, they’re also turning to electronic means of prescribing medicine, and biometrics and eSignature companies are jockeying for position in this growing market. Imprivata, for example, offers a similar system called Imprivata Confirm ID, and has announced plans to unveil new offerings at HIMSS 2015; meanwhile, companies like ChartaCloud have been developing voice-based eSignature systems that could also have a place in the healthcare sphere. Still, there seems to be a lot of room for growth in this area, and many companies – including KSI – stand to benefit.
