Kensington Expands VeriMark Portfolio With New USB Security Keys

June 15, 2021

Kensington has rounded out its product portfolio with the release of two new VeriMark Guard Fingerprint Keys. One of the Keys is a USB-C device, while the other has a USB-A form factor.

Both of the keys are designed for Windows 10, though they are compatible with macOS and ChromeOS thanks to a cross-platform Tap-and-Go feature. They can also be used to log into applications through the Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari browsers, and to gain access to various Google, Facebook, and Microsoft web services.

Like other VeriMark keys, the new USB-C and USB-A models enable fingerprint-based biometric authentication. The match is carried out on-device with Match-in-Sensor tech that stores the user’s template locally. From there, the devices send an encrypted match confirmation to complete authentication requests while still protecting the biometric data of the user.

Each key can store as many as 10 individual fingerprints, with false rejection and false acceptance rates of two percent and 0.001 percent, respectively. The devices offer FIDO2 and FIDO U2F certification, and can help organizations comply with data protection laws like the GDPR regulations in Europe and Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act. Employees can use the keys at the office, or take them home to ensure safe access when signing in remotely.

“Passwords are one of the most vulnerable targets for cyberattacks against businesses and end users,” said Kensington Security Marketing Manager Santiago Del Portillo. “Our new VeriMark Keys enable users to authenticate without storing passwords on servers, protecting the user against unauthorized access to their computers, mobile devices, and sensitive applications.”

The VeriMark Guard USB-C will retail for $69.99, while the USB-A will start at $64.99. Both come with a two-year warranty at purchase. The two keys arrive several months after the release of Kensington’s VeriMark Desktop Fingerprint Key, which was similarly designed for computers that run on the Windows operating system.
