Biometric ID Verification Fights Rental Housing Fraud

CheckpointID is teaming up with IDScan.net to provide better fraud prevention services for property managers, security guards, and other people monitoring multi-unit apartment buildings. The new platform will combine document verification and facial recognition to make sure the name on an application matches the name of the person who will be living in a unit.

“Our technology can validate an individual’s ID to ensure they are who they say they are,” said IDScan.net CEO Denis Petrov.

“This partnership solidifies our ability to assist apartment communities to add an additional level of safety and security against fraud,” added CheckpointID CEO Terry Slattery.

At first, the partnership will only give property managers the ability to verify government-issued IDs. Facial recognition capabilities will be introduced at a later date for an extra layer of security.

IDScan.net first introduced facial recognition tech to complement its document reading service in August of 2018. CheckpointID is a relatively new player in residential security, expanding its clientele in the multi-unit space from 200 properties to 1,200 properties in the past 15 months.

IDScan.net is one of several providers currently offering some combination of ID verification and facial recognition. Companies like Acuant and Jumio have made significant strides in the past few years, which only illustrates the growing demand for verification services.
