FaceTec’s ZoOm is First to Get iBeta PAD Certification with 100% Resistance to Spoofing in Level 1 Test

August 23, 2018

“Though negative results are not published, we believe most of our competitors have attempted similar PAD testing and failed, so achieving the first and only Level 1 certification is truly a milestone in the biometrics industry.” – Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO, FaceTec

FaceTec's ZoOm is First to Get iBeta PAD Certification with 100% Resistance to Spoofing

FaceTec‘s ZoOm 3D Face Login system has become the first biometric technology to attain Level 1 certification in the iBeta Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) Certification test. The company attained a remarkable 100 percent anti-spoofing score.

Denver-based iBeta first announced it had established a PAD test this past April, explaining that companies could evaluate their technologies in reference to the ISO/IEC 30107-3 standard. With iBeta accredited through the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), the testing program offers biometrics specialists a unique opportunity to have their technology validated by a highly qualified third party.

In being the first to attain PAD Certification, FaceTec appears to have leapt at the opportunity to have its ZoOm system evaluated. ZoOm essentially relies on a 3D selfie for AI-powered user authentication, leveraging a mobile device’s camera to establish a three-dimensional map of the user’s face. Over the course of six days, the system was subjected to more than 1,500 spoofing sessions, none of which were able to fool it. What’s more, FaceTec says that under the ISO/IEC 30107-3 standard, it was required to provide iBeta with any biometric data requested, the aim being to ensure that the system can guard against ‘complicit user fraud’.

Commenting on the results in a statement, FaceTec CEO Kevin Alan Tussy emphasized the singularity of ZoOm’s achievement. “Though negative results are not published, we believe most of our competitors have attempted similar PAD testing and failed, so achieving the first and only Level 1 certification is truly a milestone in the biometrics industry,” he said.

An executive summary of the iBeta ZoOm 3D Face Login SDK PAD Certification Test Report is available via FaceTec.
