Details on Yoti Guardian Council Underline Commitment to Transparency

June 17, 2019

“According to Yoti, the Council was set up to make sure that Yoti’s actions are in keeping with its stated humanitarian principles.”

Details on Yoti Guardian Council Underline Commitment to Transparency

Yoti has once again demonstrated its commitment to ethical best practices in tech. The company has shared some details about its Guardian Council, which is intended to make the company more transparent and more accountable for its use of people’s personal data.

The Council itself will eventually have somewhere between 8-10 members, although only three Guardians have been appointed so far. Those Guardians convene for quarterly meetings, sharing the minutes publicly on the Yoti website. New members are nominated by current members before being confirmed by the Yoti community at large, and are expected to be just as transparent about their own professional histories.

According to Yoti, the Council was set up to make sure that Yoti’s actions are in keeping with its stated humanitarian principles. They also have an ex-officio position at Yoti board meetings, allowing them to speak up if they have any concerns about the company’s behavior.

Renata Avila, Doc Searls, and Gavin Starks currently serve as Yoti’s three Guardians, each bringing an established track record in advocacy and social development to their position. Yoti has repeatedly emphasized its interest in transparency, charity, and social progress. The Guardian Council shows how the company follows through to implement those values.
