NEC Corporation of America has named Steve Lizotte as its new Vice President of Engineering.

Steve Lizotte comes to NECAM from his previous position as IDEMIA North America’s Vice President of Engineering, overseeing the software development and program delivery efforts of its Identity and Security business. He was promoted to that position in late 2019, after starting at IDEMIA as a Transformation Leader in 2018, a year in which the company was undergoing profound organizational changes after IDEMIA’s formation through the merger of Safran Identity & Security and Oberthur Technologies in 2017.

In a statement announcing his appointment, NEC highlighted Lizotte’s previous role in overseeing “all development activities for biometric and digital identification systems and services used by state and local law enforcement, state departments of motor vehicles, and government background check programs.”

The company went on to explain that Lizotte’s track record and leadership “position NEC’s Digital Government Services for future growth strategy and expansion,” adding that his new role will bring the mandate of directing “NEC’s customized solutions and SaaS delivery for several sectors including public safety, aviation and enterprise.”

NEC’s strong emphasis on digital identification technologies and the public sector may hint at its grand ambitions in the emerging digital and mobile ID space, where it is already active alongside IDEMIA and other tech innovators including Apple. For its part, NEC has been targeting the airport security and border control sector, among others, with its I:Delight digital ID platform.

“As the industry leader in many critical areas, NEC biometrics and advanced recognition systems are used around the world across multiple industries,” said Eugene le Roux, the VP of International Operations and Domestic Government for NEC’s Digital Services unit. “Steve is a proven leader driving innovation and leading multidisciplinary teams through solution development, testing and quality. We look forward to that leadership as we deliver on our growing customer demand.”

In addition to his work with IDEMIA, Lizotte also gained years of professional experience in roles with Empirix, where he started as a Platform Engineering Manager in 2000 and departed as Senior Director of Engineering in 2011; and with PerkinElmer Informatics, where he started as Senior Director of Engineering in 2011 and served as VP of Engineering from 2013 to early 2016. He has also held senior engineering roles with Kronos (from February to September of 2016) and Qvidian (late 2016 to July of 2018).
