VSBLTY Partners With Ability Enterprise on Smart Camera Solution

February 11, 2021

A new partnership has been announced between security and retail marketing technology provider VSBLTY and Taiwan-based Ability Enterprise Co., Ltd. It will focus on the development of a new high resolution camera loaded with computer vision and machine learning technology.

VSBLTY Partners With Ability Enterprise on Smart Camera Solution

The two firms aim to market the new device, called the ‘Ability’ camera, for retail and smart city applications, with early production units already being integrated into the RadarApp smart city neighbourhood program in place in Mexico City, with plans in place to include the cameras in a media network of 10,000 convenience stores in Central and South America at some point in 2021.

The Ability cameras use VSBLTY’s AI-driven Vector software, and are developed using Myriad X in concert with Intel’s OpenVINO toolkit. Using advanced computer vision and analytics, the cameras look to provide retailers with advanced surveillance capabilities, including audience measurement, mask detection, people counts, dwell time, and inventory management.

On the smart city solutions front, the camera is marketed as being able to provide license plate recognition, vehicle count, gait analysis, and parking enforcement capabilities, as well as being able to detect weapons, strangers, and car accidents.

“We are delighted to work with Ability Enterprise Co., an industry leader in ensuring video quality in application environments with challenging high contrast lighting conditions,” said VSBLTY Co-founder & CEO Jay Hutton. “Our new relationship with Ability is very strategic to us as we explore ways to further collaborate with Intel to advance the camera in a range of SI relationships and with specific projects already underway.”

This isn’t the first time VSBLTY has entered into a partnership to use its technology in smart city applications. In 2019, a deal was announced with digital signage and media marketing company Onyx Cognivas Pty., in an initiative in the Johannesburg suburb of Sandton.

With regards to this most recent solution, Hutton commented that the Ability camera “is already a production-level product since it is now being deployed throughout Mexico City with immediate plans to also implement in large-scale retail projects.”
