Suprema’s BioSign 4.0 Supports Biometric Matching in New Galaxy S21

April 20, 2021

Samsung continues to rely on Suprema for fingerprint matching in its mobile devices. The company’s new Galaxy S21 smartphone will feature Suprema’s updated BioSign 4.0 fingerprint recognition algorithm, which will be integrated with an under-the-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm.

Suprema's BioSign 4.0 Supports Biometric Matching in New Galaxy S21

Suprema has been providing fingerprint technology for Samsung since 2017, when Samsung deployed BioSign 2.0 in the Galaxy J5. The algorithm has since appeared in a slew of other smartphones, including the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy Note10, and the Galaxy Note 20.

The partnership between Suprema and Qualcomm, on the other hand, dates to 2019, and began when Suprema integrated BioSign 3.0 with Qualcomm’s original 3D Sonic Sensor. The Galaxy S21 will be built with the second generation 3D Sonic Sensor, which also supports matching software from Precise Biometrics.

According to Suprema, BioSign 4.0 performs much better than its predecessor, and is in fact twice as accurate and 50 percent faster than BioSign 3.0. The second generation Qualcomm sensor offers similar benefits, insofar as it is 77 percent larger than the first generation model.

“With the excellent reviews BioSign 4.0 has been receiving for its performance and user convenience, we expect to be able to grow sales and market share,” said Suprema President Brian Song. “Suprema will continue to advance our fingerprint and face recognition technologies using AI and deep learning, leading the biometrics market into the future.”

Suprema had developed its own fingerprint sensors in addition to the matching algorithm. The company recently placed its BioMini-Slim3 FAP 30 sensor in the Laxton Group’s Chameleon line of biometric handhelds.
