The final week of February is host to a number of major conferences in the vertical industries that depend on identity technologies. Healthcare, cloud technology and mobile all have major exhibitions running concurrently through this coming Thursday.
BIO-key International released its itineraries this week for IBM Pulse and HIMSS conferences in Las Vegas, Nevada and Orlando, Florida respectively. At Pulse 2014, the company will be showcasing its fingerprint authentication for IBM ISAM, while at HIMSS, BIO-key technology will be demonstrated by a number of healthcare partners including Allscripts, Caradigm, Epic, HealthCast Solutions and Key Source International. Underneath all of BIO-key’s announced appearances is a strong anti-password stance: at both conventions the company is focussing on the efficiency that strong authentication can bring to enterprises and healthcare customers.
Staying on the topic of fingerprints (which were all over the news this past week), Lenel Systems certified MorphoTrak (Safran) biometric solutions. In turn, MorphoTrak has joined Lenel OpenAccess Alliance Program (OAAP). The idea is to keep access control accessibile, which is becoming an increasingly popular focus for biometrics providers now that strong authentications technology is on its way to becoming ubiquitous and passwords.
In terms of financial applications, fingerprint biometrics have taken a strong hold in African regions. This past week was the first of an ambitious pilot project in Nigeria: one that will eventually see a wide range of financial transactions performed and secured solely by fingerprint biometrics. The biometric system is being provided by DERMALOG and will allow for banking procedures and eventually fingerprint payment protection, simultaneously fighting fraud and sidestepping literacy and language barriers.
If all of that isn’t enough to show the versatility of fingerprint biometrics, then take a look at M2SYS this week, who announced support of the Integrated Biometrics Sherlock fingerprint sensor. Selected for its size, speed and durability, M2SYS will be supporting Sherlock through its Hybrid Biometric Platform in a wide variety of deployments including border control, ePassports, voter registration and national ID.
Of course, there is an entire world of biometrics out there, some that are synonymous with the public’s mental image (iris and fingerprints) and some newly discovered like the eyeprint. Award winning Kansas City startup EyeVerify uses its proprietary mobile technology to capture this biometric using the front facing camera on a mobile device for a variety of strong authentication applications. On Monday, findBIOMETRICS had a chance to speak with Toby Rush, the company’s CEO, to find out a little bit more about the exciting new technology.
