HP has announced a new POS terminal that supports biometric security via Windows Hello. It’s called the ElitePOS.
It’s a fast POS terminal, with its Windows 10 operating system and 7th generation Intel Core processors. It’s also sleek, sporting an unobtrusive but clear touch display that should help to facilitate convenient transactions.
For certain merchants, though, the device’s security components will be the key draw. It features HP BIOSphere Gen3 and HP Sure Start Gen3 to counter malware, and it offers an optional fingerprint reader that uses Windows 10’s Windows Hello biometric authentication platform to verify the identities of approved users.
With the latter feature, the HP Elite POS helps to further extend Microsoft’s Windows Hello ecosystem, with a wealth of products now leveraging the software to enable biometric security for end users. HP has proven to be an advocate of the system with previous products, and is clearly keen to expand its Windows Hello offerings beyond the PC market, which could help to further encourage growth for Windows Hello more broadly.
