Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS Features Goodix In-Display Biometric Sensor

“The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, then, is the first smartphone to exclusively rely on Goodix for its in-display fingerprint sensor technology, with Goodix announcing in a press release that its solution is “exclusively featured” in the device.”

Goodix is the biometric supplier behind the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS’s in-display fingerprint sensor, the company has announced.Goodix is 'Exclusive' Supplier of In-Display Sensor for New Huawei Phone

Goodix announced the “world’s first” in-display fingerprint sensor at last year’s Mobile World Congress, but was ultimately beaten to market by Synaptics, whose Clear ID technology made Vivo’s X20 UD device the first commercially available smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor earlier this year. Goodix announced last week that its in-display sensor technology was being used in a sequel device now being launched by Vivo, but it isn’t the only supplier involved, with Synaptics also asserting that its in-display technology is being used in the Vivo X21 UD.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, then, is the first smartphone to exclusively rely on Goodix for its in-display fingerprint sensor technology, with Goodix announcing in a press release that its solution is “exclusively featured” in the device. Goodix’s statement adds that its solution is “the only option in the market that supports both flexible & rigid OLED displays, simultaneously maintaining performance and reliability”.

In any case, Goodix’s involvement in the new Huawei device is the latest sign of the buzzing activity in this new market area, with in-display fingerprint scanning technology potentially representing a major new phase in the ongoing evolution of mobile biometrics.
