Nymi Integrates HID Global’s Seos Tech Into Biometric Band

October 7, 2020

The new Nymi Band 3.0 will offer built-in support for HID Global’s Seos credentialing system. The Seos applet is used to store security keys and encrypted firmware, and will come pre-loaded on the secure element of the Nymi Band itself.

The joint solution will enable passwordless physical and digital access control. Like its predecessors, the Nymi Band 3.0 includes a heartbeat monitor that allows it to provide ongoing biometric authentication while the user is wearing the band. The wearable is able to communicate with other devices through an NFC connection, which means that it can be waved like a regular smart card to gain touchless access to physical locations, or to log into Windows and other applications.

The Band can also be used for payments, contact tracing, and to enforce social distancing. Employees use fingerprint recognition to register their identity to the band, and then again when they arrive at work to activate it for the day. Thanks to the new partnership, the band will offer native support for a slew of HID Global products, including HID DigitalPersona and the HID Signo and iCLASS SE access readers, in addition to FIDO2 authentication protocols.

“Wearables are increasingly popular for access to buildings and assets where users may not be allowed to carry mobile devices, cards or fobs,” said HID Global VP and Extended Access Managing Director Steve Currie.

“HID Seos technology gives the Nymi Band 3.0 all the capabilities of a secure smart card, including its best-in-class cryptography,” added Nymi CEO Chris Sullivan. “We believe these capabilities will fuel faster adoption for our wristbands, which are already seeing rapid uptake in applications like pharma manufacturing.”

The Seos credentialing system has already been integrated into wearable devices from Fidesmo. HID Global has since received a Pandemic Tech Innovation Award for a contact tracing tool that uses Bluetooth fobs to measure and enforce social distancing guidelines.
