Ipsidy’s Biometric Selfie Authentication Comes to the Web

July 13, 2020

“The expansion of our facial biometric identity services to seamless web browser applications reflects our vision of delivering frictionless identity experiences that establish the highest level of assurance and mutual trust in today’s digital and remote world.” – Phillip Kumnick, CEO, Ipsidy

Ipsidy has brought its selfie-based authentication services to the web.

Ipsidy's Biometric Selfie Authentication Comes to the Web

It’s a major move for the company, allowing end users to verify their identities without the need to download a mobile app. The company says that its Proof by Ipsidy solution can now be used to onboard and authenticate end users over the web through the same selfie-based mechanism as its mobile version: a user uploads images of their face and official identity documents, and facial recognition matches them, thereby remotely confirming the user’s identity.

Likewise, Ipsidy’s Verified solution can be used to bring selfie-based biometric authentication to any digital transaction.

Ipsidy says that in transferring the technology to the web, it has maintained the liveness detection capabilities needed to detect and thwart presentation attacks, bolstering the security afforded by biometric authentication.

“Ipsidy is committed to ensuring our clients know the identity of their users with biometric certainty,” commented Ipsidy CEO Phillip Kumnick. “The expansion of our facial biometric identity services to seamless web browser applications reflects our vision of delivering frictionless identity experiences that establish the highest level of assurance and mutual trust in today’s digital and remote world.”

It’s a timely offering in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a wide range of organizations having been pushed into digital channels in their interactions with customers and end users. There could therefore be significant demand for web-based biometric authentication solutions.
