Hengbao Places Volume Order for IDEX Sensors for Biometric Payment Cards

October 22, 2020

The Chinese smart card manufacturer Hengbao has placed a large volume order for the IDX3205 fingerprint sensor from IDEX Biometrics. Hengbao is one of the largest smart card companies in China, with a strong focus on the financial sector. Its cards offer support for most of the leading payment schemes, including Mastercard, China UnionPay, VISA, and JCB.

With that in mind, Hengbao is planning to use the IDEX sensors to bring biometric payment cards to the Asian market. IDEX and Hengbao have been collaborating on biometric card projects since September of 2018, and previously showcased a dual-interface card with an IDEX sensor at the Digital China Summit in May of 2019.

Hengbao also provides card solutions for customers in the telecommunications and security industries.

“We are delighted to be working with Hengbao and to have received this order for IDX3205 fingerprint sensors in preparation for upcoming pilots,” said IDEX CEO Vince Graziani. “Our fingerprint sensors and biometric solutions are seeing accelerating demand as they offer market-leading cost and performance benefits, to both card manufacturers and card issuers.”

For IDEX, the Hengbao order comes only days after Zwipe placed its own volume order for 300,000 units of IDEX’s TrustedBio sensor solution. The company has also received volume TrustedBio orders form Dongwoon Anatech and an unnamed Tier 1 card manufacturer.
