GenKey, World Bank Collaborate on Biometric ID System in Niger

January 21, 2020

Biometrics News - GenKey, World Bank Collaborate on Biometric ID System in Niger

Biometric technology company GenKey has announced a partnership with the World Bank and the Government of Niger to set up a nationwide biometric registration system for all of Niger’s civil servants.

With its primary goal being to create a better way to help manage the careers of those registered, the system will also include students with grants and retirees.

After a biometric census is conducted, a database will be set up with secured identity cards issued to those registered to verify their identity and status.

A second phase of the project will involve the selection of a Human Management Software platform to manage the database.

The project will be funded by the World Bank and managed by a team within Niger’s Ministry of Finance (PCDS). GenKey has been awarded the contract for the first phase of the project, and will be supplying the technology for the registration and creation of the biometric database.

The GenKey technology that will be used includes its Necto biographic and biometric registration and verification solution, the GenKey SPiRE Identity Management Solution, and ABIS, its deduplication solution.

“We are committed to helping PCDS to enhance the performance of
the different ministries. Our biometric technology is a very effective
tool to identify uniquely all beneficiaries of the state,” said GenKey CEO
Michiel Loeff in a statement.

Altogether, the project aims to ultimately enrol 400,000 individuals from the outlined groups for phase one.
