FPC1025 Sensor Appears in New Chromebook from HP

June 10, 2020

Fingerprint Cards has placed one of its fingerprint sensors in a new premium Chromebook from HP. The sensor in question is the FPC1025, and it will appear in the right palm rest of the Chromebook x360 14c device. As always, the sensor will enable biometric authentication and allow users to access the device without entering a password.

The news reflects FPC’s ongoing attempts to diversify its sensor portfolio. The new FPC1025 was released in May, and is specifically geared towards access control applications. The component leverages a capacitive sensor with a small 12mm by 12mm footprint, and is rated water resistant at the IP67 level.

FPC’s BM-Lite fingerprint module has also proven to be popular since making its debut back in November. The module has appeared in several biometric access control products, including a fingerprint padlock from Aran Tecnovation and a smart door lock from Fueb Labs. Since then, FPC has updated its Biometric Software Platform to better support access control applications.

An older sensor with the FPC1025 moniker has appeared in several smartphones over the years. The full roster includes 2016’s Huawei Mate 9 and the original Pixel and Pixel XL phones from Google.
