FPC Sensors Used in New Blackberry Smartphones

The Indian company’s new phone, the Evolve, is a budget offering, priced at about $365, and is slated to launch toward the end of this month. The premium Evolve X, meanwhile, will go on sale in mid-September, priced at roughly $510. Both devices will be sold exclusively through Amazon India.

FPC’s role was, of course, to provide the devices’ fingerprint sensors. Both use an FPC1028, a sensor model that has also been implemented in recent devices from Xiaomi and Huawei. In the Evolve and Evolve X, the sensors are rear-mounted, supporting biometric user authentication together with a face unlock system. The rear positioning of the sensors also facilitates the large screens of the devices, which really on touch displays without physical keyboards despite the Blackberry branding.

In a statement announcing the integrations, Fingerprint Cards emphasized the quality of its fingerprint sensor products, noting that its EvoTouch “self-learning algorithm learns more about you with your every touch, adapting to your changing finger conditions, such as small injuries or seasonal changes to the skin.”
