Fingerprint Cards (FPC) is kicking off the new year with a new deal with Mantra Softech. The agreement specifically concerns FPC’s iris recognition technology, which will be featured in a wide range of Mantra Softech devices over the course of the next few years.
While FPC is not as well known for iris recognition as it is for its namesake fingerprint recognition portfolio, the company has been steadily working to expand its biometric offerings. The company first introduced an iris recognition solution all the way back in 2017, and the technology has already appeared in Grand Tech International Development’s Apnapay Point-of-Sale devices for the Indian market. Mantra Softech itself is India’s largest manufacturer of biometric sensors and biometric devices.
FPC’s iris recognition offering is a fully contactless biometric solution. The two companies are hoping that their partnership will help meet the growing demand for touchless technologies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are very pleased with this contract, which confirms the positive trend in demand for touchless solutions,” said FPC Payments and Access SVP Michel Roig. “It demonstrates the strength of our solution, and the tight collaboration with Mantra Softech.”
“The combination of Fingerprints’ cutting-edge iris solution and our proprietary hardware highly complement each other,” added Mantra Director Hiren Bhandari. “We are delighted with our close collaboration and look forward to continuing it.”
Mantra Softech’s own MFS500, Mapro CX, and Mapro OX fingerprint scanners are compatible with the Windows Hello authentication platform as of January of 2020. FPC, meanwhile, turned its Payments and Access Business Line into a Fingerprint Cards Switzerland subsidiary following a major strategic review in November. The company highlighted growing opportunities in the access and payments sectors as a motivating factor in the decision.
Michel Roig will serve as the President for the Switzerland subsidiary. The separate Fingerprint Technology Company subsidiary will operate out of Shanghai and focus primarily on mobile biometrics.
