FPC Extends Kona I Smart Card Partnership

June 20, 2017

“…with their extended partnership the companies have announced that four new smart card models are using FPC technology.”

Fingerprint Cards has officially partnered with smart card maker Kona I.FPC Extends Kona I Smart Card Partnership While the South Korea-based company had integrated an FPC1020 fingerprint sensor into a smart card last year, with their extended partnership the companies have announced that four new smart card models are using FPC technology.

In a statement announcing the partnership, the companies asserted that Kona I’s cards “are the most comprehensive in the industry,” with features like dynamic CVVs, and One Time Password and energy-harvesting capabilities. Commenting on the collaboration, Kona I CEO Chung-il Cho suggested the ultimate aim is to bring biometric security “to every day shopping.”

For FPC, the partnership represents its latest step into a rapidly heating biometric smart cards market, arriving soon after the deployment of a smart card solution at the world’s first open-air casino in France, and Zwipe’s announcement of its first orders for a biometric payment card solution featuring FPC sensors.
