FacePhi Passes Level 2 of iBeta’s Biometric Presentation Attack Detection Test

March 22, 2022

“With this letter of compliance granted by iBeta, FacePhi demonstrates that its technology is strong and resistant to attacks, both level 1 and level 2 in accordance with ISO 30107-3.” – Jorge Félix, Quality & Systems Director, FacePhi

FacePhi Passes Level 2 of iBeta's Biometric Presentation Attack Detection Test

FacePhi has marked yet another important achievement for its biometric technology, this time in attestation to its ability to detect spoofing attacks. The company has passed Level 2 of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluation, obtaining ISO 30107-3 Level 2 compliance.

Over the last few years, iBeta’s PAD program has quickly become the industry standard in the evaluation of biometric programs’ capability of detecting spoofing attacks that use imitations of valid biometric credentials in an attempt to fool an authentication system. For facial recognition, Level 1 of iBeta’s PAD testing entails the use of 2D photos and videos to trick an authentication system, while Level 2 goes a step further with more sophisticated attacks using materials like silicone and latex masks.

Passing either test requires complete invulnerability to such attacks; no spoofing attempts can be allowed to succeed. And FacePhi has now received official confirmation from iBeta of its success.

“With this letter of compliance granted by iBeta, FacePhi demonstrates that its technology is strong and resistant to attacks, both level 1 and level 2 in accordance with ISO 30107-3,” said FacePhi Quality & Systems Director Jorge Félix, adding that his firm “continues to work on its commitment to the highest quality standards in the industry that recognize us as a safe product for our customers and users.”

News of the ISO 30107-3 Level 2 compliance comes shortly after FacePhi’s announcement that it had attained Pinakes certification as well as ENS certification. The former paved the way for FacePhi to work with financial institutions in Spain without having to go through an audit for compliance with Europe’s EBA/GL/2019/02 regulatory framework in each case, while the latter confirmed that FacePhi’s technology meets the cybersecurity standards of Spain’s National Security Framework.

Those certifications are clearly aimed at helping FacePhi to further accelerate its business activities in its home country of Spain. The ISO 30107-3 Level 2 compliance, meanwhile, is a more general validation of the quality of FacePhi’s facial recognition technology that should help to raise its appeal in the global market.
