ENS Certification Further Cements FacePhi’s Identity Verification Dominance in Spanish Market

March 9, 2022

“With FacePhi having established itself as a strategically important domestic tech company in the eyes of the Spanish government, and now having obtained certifications to streamline its efforts to establish new contracts among banks and in the public sector, FacePhi seems poised to become the country’s go-to vendor for identity verification and authentication for a range of institutions.”

FacePhi has obtained another important certification that should help the company to solidify its dominance as a provider of biometric identity verification and authentication solutions in the Spanish market.

In this case, FacePhi has been certified with respect to the National Security Scheme, also called the ‘National Security Framework’ or ‘ENS’. First established in 2010 and later amended by Royal Decree in 2015, the ENS lays out basic cybersecurity standards for the public sector, including standards pertaining to the security of data, communications, and electronic services.

In announcing its certification, FacePhi explained that the ENS is based on the five principles of authenticity, availability, confidentiality, data traceability, and integrity. The company added that its Quality and Systems Director, Jorge Félix, asserted that “obtaining the ENS marks the strong commitment that the management is making to guarantee customers the highest standards in quality, safety and risk management.”

The certification’s announcement arrives on the heels of FacePhi’s Pinakes certification. Whereas FacePhi had previously sought to ensure its technology’s compliance with financial services regulations through Europe’s EBA/GL/2019/02 regulatory framework, which required a separate security audit for each client, Pinakes certification means that FacePhi’s technology is now approved for use in every bank in Spain, without the need for redundant audits.

These developments are important in light of FacePhi’s designation as a ‘strategic’ company by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism last autumn, enabling FacePhi to issue special visas to highly qualified foreign recruits. With FacePhi having established itself as a strategically important domestic tech company in the eyes of the Spanish government, and now having obtained certifications to streamline its efforts to establish new contracts among banks and in the public sector, FacePhi seems poised to become the country’s go-to vendor for identity verification and authentication for a range of institutions.

That having been said, FacePhi has also been working to expand its reach globally. The biometrics specialist opened an APAC-focused subsidiary in Seoul in 2019, and recently announced a new LATAM subsidiary based in Montevideo.
