Crossmatch Biometric Tech to Verify Bangladeshi Voters at Polls

Crossmatch Biometric Tech to Verify Bangladeshi Voters at PollsBiometric technology from Crossmatch is poised to play an important role in an upcoming parliamentary election in Bangladesh. The company has announced that it has shipped 150,000 optical fingerprint sensor modules to the country’s Election Commission.

As Crossmatch explains, the modules are destined for Electronic Voting Machines. Voters in the country will be required submit their fingerprints to the Election Commission, and EVM operators will issue unique passwords to voters, which will be used in combination with fingerprint recognition for voter authentication.

In announcing the shipment, Crossmatch CEO Richard Agostinelli highlighted the speed with which it was delivered, saying his firm completed the order “in little more than four weeks.” Agostinelli added, “High volume production is routine for us across our single finger and tenprint livescan lines given our customer base and their use case applications.”

As for the rest of the project’s timeline, that isn’t yet clear, with the Election Commission expected to announce an election schedule this Thursday; the election itself must be held by January 28th.

Crossmatch’s news arrives soon after the announcement that it had been acquired by HID Global in late September.
