December is here and that means it’s time to look back on the massive year in identity management that was 2014. All month we will be taking a look back on the news, interviews and features that made 2014 so exciting in biometrics.
Today we’re kicking off the December retrospective by remembering the best of our monthly themed content. Every month at FindBiometrics we choose a specific area of biometrics, whether its a specific modality, a vertical market, a topic of conversation or something else, and spend the following weeks with an in depth examination.
Here is what we got up to in the Featured Articles Section this year:
Physical Access Control
We began our themed content in April during the ISC West conference: an annual event focussed on physical access security. It was only appropriate then at we started with Physical Access Control Month. We began with a look at the barriers of biometric adoption in access control, underlined the diversity in real life access control deployments, and highlighted the growing role that mobility is playing in the realm of unlocking doors.

Biometric Software Month
Biometric software is an exciting example of how versatile strong authentication technology has become, especially with the rise of connectivity and mobility. For instance, now, with the application of the right software, the front facing camera on a smartphone can become a vascular biometric authentication device. In May we examined the recent uses of this technology, the exciting level of convenience it offers and real biometric software that you can try right away.

Multi-Modal Month
Before we got too far down the rabbit hole of themed content, we wanted to celebrate some of the editorial changes happening at FindBiometrics by taking a broad look at the many diverse modalities in identity management. We began with an overview, examined the power of multiple combined factors and spent some time looking at applications of biometric tech.

The Road To Biometrics UnPlugged
This year, FindBiometrics and Acuity Market Intelligence hosted the second annual Biometrics UnPlugged event in Tampa, Florida. The day long event was focused on commerce, mobility and privacy, so in the months leading up to it, that’s exactly what we focused on in the featured articles.

Law Enforcement
October was law enforcement month, in honor of the major news out of September’s Global Identity Summit that the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system became fully operational. We spent the month looking at the many ways that biometrics help keep us safe, examined the FBI’s NGI program, looked at real deployments and covered a large amount of biometric law enforcement news.

Border Control
Most recently, in November, FindBiometrics put biometric border control under the featured spotlight. The area of border control has been a dynamic topic in biometrics all year, with very exciting projections for the associated global markets. Last month we published interviews with border control experts, examined the goals of biometrics at the border and three real life deployments of the featured technology.
