BioConnect Joins Digital Technology Supercluster to Aid Canadian COVID-19 Recovery

August 25, 2020

“The Supercluster’s partnership with BioConnect is a prime example of the proactive and collaborative approach needed to develop innovative digital technologies for protecting the health of Canadians, of businesses, and of the overall economic recovery.” Sue Paish, CEO, Digital Technology Supercluster

BioConnect Joins Digital Technology Supercluster, Fosters Canadian COVID-19 Recovery

BioConnect’s celebrated Mobile Wellness Declaration Solution – which won the Security Industry Association (SIA)’s New Product Showcase Award for Best Emerging Technology earlier this year – has been selected by the Digital Technology Supercluster to aid in the economic recovery and renewal of Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mobile Wellness Solution can be leveraged to transform any door with an existing card reader into a smart door that sends push notifications to users’ smartphones as they await entry. The notifications bring users to a health screening survey. Any red flags detected in the survey will deny the user access. It’s an elegant, consent-based access security layer that, in a recent interview with FindBiometrics, BioConnect CEO Rob Douglas said was inspired by border control questionnaires.

“We’re using that exact same idea, but doing it through a mobile device as a push notification to declare your health as of that moment in time, and then using that data to decide whether it’s safe to let you in the facility or not,” he said. “That’s real time, if you fail the declaration, the door will not unlock, you’ll be denied access.”

Through BioConnect’s partnership with the Supercluster, which is made up of over 680 Canadian organizations, the Mobile Wellness Declaration Solution will be layered into existing card access systems.

“Being a proud Canadian technology company, we are both honoured and proud to partner with the Digital Technology Supercluster and contribute to our country’s fight against COVID-19,” said Jeff Crews, Chief Customer Officer at BioConnect. “BioConnect is uniquely positioned to combine the power of mobile application development with our deep experience in the Access Control industry in developing this mobile Wellness Declaration.”

BioConnect’s institutional recognition in Canada has been growing significantly in the past 12 months. Last September, FedDev Ontario committed $3.9 million to support BioConnect’s growth strategy plan, and in July of 2020 the company joined the MaRS Momentum accelerator.
