Behavioral Biometrics, COVID Passports, and a Year in Review: This Week’s Top Stories

February 20, 2021

Behavioral Biometrics, COVID Passports, and a Year in Review: This Week's Top Stories

It’s a varied mix of topics in this week’s roundup of FindBiometrics’ most popular articles, ranging from mobile biometrics to COVID-19 health screening to FinTech. In any case, there is ongoing enthusiasm among readers for our Year in Review coverage.

For instance, one of the most popular items from the week was our in-depth analysis of responses to Question 27 of FindBiometrics’ annual industry survey, which asked participants whether they agreed with the statement, “I only trust biometric technology that has been tested by a third party to comply with international standards.” The results were pretty one-sided:

Also popular was our Year in Review interview with FacePhi CEO Javier Mira. FacePhi is one of the leading pioneers of the now-booming selfie onboarding market, and Mira leant his expertise on the importance of liveness detection in this area, with the conversation also touching on regulatory compliance and FacePhi’s most recent influx of investment funding:

Moving beyond dedicated Year in Review coverage, this week also brought news of a new patent from BioCatch covering the operation of behavioral biometrics technology on mobile devices. The system described is designed to look for patterns in things like how a user holds their smartphone and how they enter information when using it:

As for the week’s inevitable COVID-related news, readers showed particularly strong interest in an item about the State of Hawaii’s use of CLEAR’s Health Pass solution to let visitors skip the usual 10-day quarantine upon arrival in the state. Health Pass is a mobile app that lets users share their negative COVID-19 test results:

And finally, readers showed sustained interest in IDEMIA’s recent announcement that it would be delivering a contactless biometric authentication solution to India’s Federal Bank. The solution is aimed at the bank’s employees, letting them clock in and access bank assets via face and iris recognition:
