“Viscount has been announcing contracts of this type quite regularly, being charged with providing its Freedom Access Control technology to government buildings across the USA.”
Security software and services company Viscount Systems announced two new contracts that will see its technology protecting federal government facilities in New York and Louisiana. As is standard procedure in this kind of announcement, the agencies have not been named due to contractual obligations.
“We continue to fortify our relationship with agencies in the federal sector by gaining more of their business,” says Viscount president and CEO Dennis Raefield. “Belief and endorsement in our Freedom Access Control technology continues to grow. We are able to work with our federal partners and provide solutions that meet their requirements for cost, stable technology and focus on rigorous security standards.”
Regular readers of findBIOMETRICS will find this news familiar: Viscount has been announcing contracts of this type quite regularly, being charged with providing its Freedom Access Control technology to government buildings across the USA. Freedom, as its name implies, offers customers flexibility in physical access control deployment. It allows entry devices, including those that leverage biometrics, to be controlled by a building’s standard IT network.
Eliminating the need to upend a building’s infrastructure in order to upgrade its security is a strong attack on the adoption barriers of physical access control.
This is also an excellent example of how a software based solution can leverage existing technology in order to give a biometric upgrade to what businesses already have. Of course, in many cases this goes beyond connectivity and security management, transforming regular cameras and microphones into biometric sensors. Recently we explored the implications of this concept as part of Biometric Software Month.
