Precise Biometrics technology is being used in a new smartphone from a China-based OEM. In a statement announcing the integration, the company declined to reveal the name of its client, but it did suggest that the integration should begin to generate royalty revenues starting in the fourth quarter of this year.
The company also stated that the integration came by way of Chipone, a Beijing-based company with which it entered into a licensing deal close to the start of this year. That was part of a larger strategy to extend the company’s roster of hardware partners – a strategy that is now beginning to pay off, according to a statement from Precise Biometrics’ CEO in the company’s recent Q3 report.
It may also be worth noting that in announcing its new Chipone integration, Precise Biometrics emphasized that its Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithm “is optimized for small fingerprint sensors and platforms with limited processing power and memory space.” In a growing mobile biometrics market, this could reflect a marketing strategy seeking to more specifically target OEMs producing products in the middle and lower end of the price spectrum, though the idea of strong biometrics with little demand on power and memory will likely appeal to OEMs across the range.
