Biometric Signature ID has entered into a new partnership with National Fingerprint (NFp) to provide the latter with its BioProof-ID software.
The collaboration should have a substantial impact on NFp’s operations. The company has been offering an authentication service based on in-person meetings, with ‘Registered Trusted Observers’ meeting with customers to collect fingerprints and verify IDs. Now, BSI’s BioProof-ID will allow the company to register individuals by mail and online: To authenticate a customer, a ‘Self-Capture Pack’ will be mailed out, which the customer can then use to register online by connecting with a Trusted Observer who will then witness the customer’s creation of a BioSign-ID password, which entails the entry of a four-symbol password that essentially acts as a biometric signature.
In a statement announcing the collaboration, NFp CEO Dave Allburn lauded BSI for its technology, calling it “light years ahead of the competition”.
NFp’s move away from entirely physical biometric capture is a timely one, given that various organizations are increasingly looking to authenticate customers and other end users via software solutions like facial recognition and the biometric sensors increasingly available on mobile devices. BSI’s unique approach to remote biometric authentication could help NFp to differentiate itself among a rising proliferation of such solutions.
