MorphoTrak (Safran) has opened its first facility in West Virginia, the company has announced. The new location will house a Program Management and Engineering office, and will also serve as a recruitment center for local professionals.
There are a number of good reasons for MorphoTrak to open such an office. For one thing, West Virginia is the home to one of the company’s key clients, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which recently opened a new biometrics research center on the Criminal Justice Information Services campus, in collaboration with the Department of Defense. The area also sports a lot of talent in the field of biometrics, particularly from West Virginia University, which offers courses related to the field and has spawned at least one biometric security startup.
The state also happens to be a client of MorphoTrak, with its police force (the WVSP) having used its MorphoIDent mobile devices for a few years now, and using MorphoTrak’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
In announcing the new facility, MorphoTrak Criminal Justice and Public Security Business Unit VP Steve Vinsik acknowledged these “many benefits”, and pointed specifically to how the “strategic location reflects our commitment to deliver responsive and high-quality services to the FBI, our key federal end-user.” He added that a new research partnership with WVU “will benefit the entire biometric industry, and continue Morpho’s position as the world leader in identification services.”
