Applied Recognition has won a new patent for a system allowing for the biometric capture of faces, and their reproduction in digital images.
In a statement announcing the patent, Applied Recognition emphasized the system’s applications in marketing and advertising, noting that messaging could be made more effective by mapping specific consumers’ faces onto images they are shown. But the company also noted a range of other potential applications, including greater personalization in video games and even therapeutic face matching games for Alzheimer’s patients.
“The market opportunity here is enormous,” commented Applied Recognition co-CEO Don Waugh, adding that the technology “makes it easy for companies to create the next generation of truly personalized products and services.”
The patent approval arrives not long after Applied Recognition opened its Ver-ID biometric document signing system, based on facial recognition, to iOS and Android app developers.
