Today IEEE – a professional organization for advancing technological innovation for the benefit of humanity through publications, conferences, technology standards and educational activities – announced that its Certified Biometrics Professional (CBP) Program, which offers educational materials to over a thousand individuals and certification credentials for professionals working in the biometrics industry, is being discontinued.
To date, upwards of 400 professionals have earned the CBP credential, but according to IEEE there is not enough current interest to sustain the program. This lower-than-needed number of present candidates pursuing the credential, combined with current and projected market conditions, has prompted the IEEE Educational Activities Board to discontinue the CBP program.
This being the case, those wanting to earn the CBP credential will have until November 30, 2014 to take the examination which will be offered during two administration windows this year: May 24 to June 30 and October 18 to November 30.
Those who already have the CBP credential can still list it after their names and IEEE will still recognize the certification, but as of today there will be no more renewal requirements. Additionally, IEEE will maintain all examination records and continue to verify certification inquiries from employers.
After November 30, IEEE will still continue to offer its CBP Learning System, but come December 31, 2014 access to its online learning tools will expire.
Those looking for more information on the IEEE Certified Biometrics Professional Program are encouraged to visit the CBP website.
