A new POS terminal incorporating fingerprint biometric scanning is going to make its debut at next week’s RetailTech Japan expo.
Developed by Taiwan-based Posiflex, the HS-3510W is a standalone POS terminal for retailers. It features a 10″ touchscreen, an integrated printer, a barcode scanner, RFID and WiFi compatibility, and a built-in fingerprint reader. Another model, the HS-3512W, features a 12″ screen.
In a statement announcing the new product, Posiflex said the POS terminals “address a new wave of mobile POS adoption”, designed to “bolster mobile POS capabilities”. With their integrated fingerprint sensors, the terminals are also clearly equipped to accommodate the rising use of biometric authentication for payments. While this is primarily done on mobile devices today, companies like Diebold are looking into integrating biometric authentication into ATMs, and major payment card companies such as Visa are starting to experiment with directly linking payment accounts to customers’ biometric profiles; thus incorporating fingerprint biometrics scanning into POS terminals would appear to make a lot of sense in the current climate.
RetailTech Japan runs from March 8th to 11th, and Posiflex will showcase these new POS solutions at booth #RT1512.
