Yoti will be outfitting Volunteer Edinburgh with digital IDs that will make it easier to onboard and issue credentials to new members. The organization currently has a network of more than 1,400 volunteers through the Scotland Cares program, and those numbers have gone up in the past few months as people have signed up to help provide relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to the new partnership, Volunteer Edinburgh will not need to print physical ID badges, and will instead be able to issue and manage digital credentials remotely through the Yoti app. The digital IDs are stored on the users’ smartphones, and come with a live QR code that can be scanned to confirm the documents’ authenticity.
Only Volunteer Edinburgh will be able to update and revoke IDs. The volunteers themselves will not be able to edit the information in their IDs, but can share that information with care recipients to let them know that they are indeed a verified representative of the organization.
“Being able to badge our volunteers gives the people we are supporting greater confidence in our volunteers and Volunteer Edinburgh,” said Volunteer Edinburgh Chief Officer Paul Wilson. “Yoti’s support has allowed us to augment our onboarding process for volunteers and means we can deploy our volunteers with greater safety and security.”
Volunteer Edinburgh is not the first organization to turn to Yoti for credentialing services during the COVID-19 pandemic. NHS is now using the platform to issue digital IDs to its employees in healthcare facilities, while Co-op is using it to onboard new members of its own community support program. Yoti has offered free ID verification technology to any public health organizations and community initiatives that are trying to combat the disease.
Yoti has also been working with GeneMe to create secure immunity credentials for COVID-19.
