Biometrics News: Precise Biometrics Pivots to Access Control in First YOUNiQ Application

Precise Biometrics has announced the first major application of its forthcoming YOUNiQ biometric solution, pivoting into face-based access control.

Still in development, YOUNiQ is Precise Biometrics big new multimodal platform, which the company has previously hinted will support facial, fingerprint, and iris recognition. It represents an important step forward for Precise, which has established itself as a leading provider of biometric algorithm software for fingerprint sensors, but is now aiming to expand its reach into new market areas.

The company has now revealed that it has been trialling the facial recognition component of YOUNiQ in access control applications together with “selected partners”. These include NVSS Security, which has been using the technology to replace physical access cards at the Täby Crossfit gym near Stockholm; and Clarkson University, which is going to use YOUNiQ for access control at its engineering department labs in the upcoming school semester.

Commenting in a statement, Clarkson University Center for Identification Technology Research Director Stephanie Schuckers said, “I’m thrilled to see the students utilize Precise YOUNiQ in our engineering labs, as it allows them to take part in novel technology that can inspire them to develop solutions of the next-generation”.

In its announcement, Precise Biometrics indicated that these are just some of the “several pilot projects” revolving around YOUNiQ, and reiterated that the company expects its solution to enter the commercialization phase in 2020.
