Ping Identity Unveils Biometric Selfie Onboarding System

February 3, 2021

Ping Identity has launched a new biometric onboarding solution to secure and streamline the account creation process for remote users. The solution has been dubbed PingOne Verify, and it uses face and document recognition to match a selfie to the image on an official government ID.

Ping Identity Unveils Biometric Selfie Onboarding System

In that regard, PingOne Verify is comparable to other face-based onboarding solutions. The service is delivered through the cloud, and relies on facial expressions for liveness detection. To that end, the solution captures a continuous stream to make sure that the person depicted on the ID is present and is able to follow simple instructions.

PingOne Verify uses document recognition to confirm the authenticity of the identity document, and to ensure that it has not been tampered with in any way. The solution also simplifies the identity verification process for repeat customers making a secondary account with the same service. Once the user has completed the initial account creation process, PingOne will link that identity to the device used during onboarding. As a result, the user will not need to take another photo of their ID the next time they need to prove their identity.

According to Ping Identity, the automated solution will allow enterprises to reduce costs while remaining compliant with the latest Know-Your-Customer regulations.

“Enterprises need individuals to verify their identity to prevent fraud, but if the verification process is too cumbersome, they risk losing customers in their first interactions with the business,” said Ping Identity Founder and CEO Andre Durand. “PingOne Verify is a simple way to verify identities that meets all of an enterprise’s security requirements, while giving customers a streamlined, passwordless, onboarding experience.”

PingOne Verify arrives several months after the debut of Ping Identity’s multimodal PingZero solution, which provides ongoing passive authentication once a user is logged in. Nymi announced that its Nymi Band would be compatible with PingZero in December.
