Passkeys Extend Reach With Dev Platform Support

March 2, 2023

Denver-based startup Vault Vision has become the latest firm to announce its support for passkeys, the pioneering passwordless authentication solution pioneered by Apple and other tech giants last year.

Passkeys Extend Reach With Dev Platform Support

Vault Vision offers an easy-to-integrate user login solution for developers building digital platforms on the React, Node, Python, and Go programming language, and on low code platforms like Webflow. As Founder and CEO Neil Proctor explains, “Vault Vision is the only passwordless-first auth platform that does not require a password during setup.”

It’s a small outfit. According to data on CrunchBase, Vault Vision was founded in November of 2021 by Proctor and co-founder Raj Nijjer, and its workforce is somewhere under 10 employees. Nevertheless, its embrace of the passkey concept will help to further accelerate its spread across the internet, especially if more developers embrace Vault Vision’s platform as they build their login systems.

Vault Vision is a member of the FIDO Alliance, which helped to develop the passkey concept in collaboration with Apple, Google, Microsoft, and the World Wide Web Consortium.

The passkey offers a particularly elegant passwordless authentication solution, essentially storing a unique password for each of a given user’s online accounts in a secure vault on the user’s smartphone, which can only be accessed with a biometric scan on the device. For the end user, that amounts to a login process that only requires the same kind of fingerprint or face scan that is so often used to unlock a contemporary smartphone, and eliminates the need to remember complex passwords.

Passkeys have been gaining ground since their initial launch on Apple devices last June, with major brands like eBay, Best Buy, and PayPal announcing support for the authentication system.

Beyond passkeys, Vault Vision’s platform supports hardware security keys, time-based one-time passcodes, and email-based authentication, among other options.
