Outseer has enabled biometric onboarding and authentication for organizations using its flagship Fraud Manager solution. The new Account Enrollment Protection feature will use facial recognition to match a selfie to the image on an official government ID, while the Account Takeover Detection feature uses the same technology for ongoing identity verification.
As the name would suggest, Account Enrollment Protection is geared toward the onboarding process, and will allow Fraud Manager clients to register new customers in various digital services. The solution was built to guard against synthetic IDs and account opening fraud, and comes with document verification technology that cross-references a document with third-party databases to make sure the information is legitimate.
The Account Takeover Detection feature, on the other hand, uses facial recognition for passwordless authentication, and for proof of identity in high-risk transactions. The solution prevents an unauthorized user from gaining access to an account, and is compliant with the latest FIDO2 security standards.
In addition to releasing the new features, Outseer has partnered with 1Kosmos through its Outseer Beyond program. 1Kosmos is the developer of the FIDO-certified and NIST-approved BlockID distributed digital identity solution. The company is helping Outseer strengthen its passwordless identity capabilities, and will also help Outseer reach out to new customers through the Beyond arrangement.
“We’re enhancing Outseer Fraud Manager solutions with identity-based controls to protect the end-to-end user journey for our customers’ own digital commerce operations,” said Outseer COO Jim Ducharme. “Outseer is committed to ridding the world of transactional fraud, and leveraging digital identity capabilities from partners like 1Kosmos will ensure we deliver on this mission even faster.”
“1Kosmos and Outseer are working together to augment and develop new use cases of fraud detection,” added 1Kosmos CEO Hemen Vimadalal. “Using our platform, we will blend user authentication and identity proofing to reduce fraud and increase operational efficiencies – all wrapped into a single frictionless experience.”
Outseer noted that the number of account takeover attempts has skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has similarly warned about a dramatic increase in brand abuse, which occurs when a fraudster pretends to be a representative of a real company.
