Nok Nok Labs Joins GSMA

May 4, 2021

Nok Nok Labs will be looking to promote passwordless authentication practices in the mobile industry as the newest member of the GSMA. The company is already one of the world’s biggest providers of passwordless authentication tech, and has outfitted more than 150 million mobile subscribers with secure FIDO-certified solutions.

Nok Nok Labs Joins GSMA

The new arrangement will allow Nok Nok to build on its work with the FIDO Alliance. Nok Nok was a founding member of the Alliance, and has been a dedicated proponent of passwordless authentication protocols in the years since. For its part, the FIDO Alliance also joined forces with the GSMA back in 2017.

As a member of the GSMA, Nok Nok will guide policy and standards discussions, and offer its expertise on any matters related to authentication. In that regard, it will show Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) how they can use face, fingerprint, and other technologies to strengthen security and improve the customer experience while removing friction from login procedures.

Nok Nok noted that biometric sensors are becoming increasingly common in mobile devices, and that network operators stand to benefit because they will no longer need to waste as much money on customer support calls and password reset requests. The company has now processed billions of authentication events for customers around the world.

“The GSMA continues to be the forum for thought leadership, innovation and standardization for the global mobile communications community,” said Nok Nok Chief Business Development Officer Walter Beisheim. “Nok Nok is pleased to continue our contributions through the GSMA securing people, devices and services within and across MNO networks.”

Frost & Sullivan recently presented Nok Nok with its 2020 New Product Innovation Award in recognition of the company’s passwordless S3 Authentication Suite, which received a smartwatch-friendly update back in July. The GSMA, meanwhile, has observed a dramatic increase in digital traffic in the wake of COVID-19.
