New Dell Laptops Feature FPC Biometric Tech

August 25, 2021

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) continues to gain traction with laptop manufacturers. The company’s PC fingerprint solution has now been integrated into a pair of product lines, with Dell becoming the latest manufacturer to adopt the technology.

New Dell Laptops Feature FPC Biometric Tech

The PC solution will specifically be appearing in Dell’s Latitude 5000 and Latitude 7000 series of laptops. Both series will place the fingerprint sensor in the power button to give customers a biometric authentication option when signing into various applications or unlocking the device.

FPC first released its PC offering back in August of 2020 in hopes that it would help the company capture a portion of an increasingly lucrative fingerprint PC market. Manufacturers can choose from one of several different sensor options, which means that they can integrate FPC’s hardware into a wide range of devices with different form factors. The PC solution itself is fully compatible with the Windows 10 operating system, and supports biometric logins with the Windows Hello and Microsoft Enhanced Sign-in (SecureBio) platforms.

In the meantime, the Dell announcement is expected to herald a string of similar announcements moving forward. FPC has stated that it has already secured design wins with three of the five biggest PC manufacturers internationally, and is hoping to unveil additional devices with FPC fingerprint utilities in the not too distant future.

“This product launch by Dell confirms the positive trend in demand for biometric authentication in consumer and enterprise PCs,” said FPC Mobile Business Line SVP Ted Hansson. “Fingerprints is poised for continued growth in this segment, providing the perfect way to add convenient and secure authentication to PCs.”

The RedmiBook Pro 15 laptop from Xiaomi became the first consumer device to feature the new PC solution when it hit the market back in February. Xiaomi has since gone on to deploy FPC’s technology in its Mi Notebook Pro 14 and the Mi Notebook Pro 15 devices.
