Mi 8 Youth Smartphone Features Fingerprint Cards Biometric Sensor

September 21, 2018

Mi 8 Youth Smartphone Features Fingerprint Cards Biometric SensorXiaomi is once again using Fingerprint Cards technology to power the biometric authentication capabilities of a new smartphone. FPC has announced that the company’s Mi 8 Youth smartphone features an FPC1291 fingerprint sensor.

It is, of course, the same fingerprint sensor model used in the original Mi 8 and the budget-friendly Mi 8 SE devices launched by Xiaomi earlier this year. Those were in fact the first smartphones to integrate FPC’s new sensor, a “single-chip, single-die” solution aimed at reducing costs and smoothing out the integration process.

In a statement announcing this latest integration, however, FPC highlighted its technology’s other qualities, asserting that its sensors “offer competitive advantages including unique image quality, extreme robustness, low power consumption and excellent biometric performance.”

As the Mi 8 Youth’s name suggests, Xiaomi’s new smartphone is a somewhat stripped-down version of its predecessor aimed at a younger demographic. In addition to its FPC fingerprint sensor, the device also features a Snapdragon 660 processor, a 6.26″ LCD display, and a 3350mAh battery.
