Innovatrics Upgrades Biometric Onboarding Solution

January 31, 2022

Innovatrics has released a pair of updates that will improve the document verification capabilities of its Digital Onboarding Toolkit. The first concerns the dynamic document detector in the company’s mobile SDKs for Android and iOS devices, which has been upgraded to enable document capture at virtually any angle.

In that regard, Innovatrics noted that document capture can be one of the biggest pain points in many remote onboarding services, insofar as users are more likely to become frustrated and abandon registration if they cannot take a suitable picture of their identity document. Innovatrics’ enhanced document detector no longer asks users to fit their document inside a rectangular frame, and instead activates its auto capture utility as soon as the lettering on the document is clear enough to support optical character recognition. That, in turn, allows the Innovatrics system to verify the authenticity of that document.

The other update uses NFC technology to bypass document photos entirely. To that end, Innovatrics has expanded the NFC reading capabilities of its Android and iOS mobile libraries to allow compatible smartphones to scan the RFID chip in a machine readable travel document. The scan ensures that the document is legitimate, and can extract the high-quality facial template stored inside the chip. In doing so, the technology supports a smoother and more accurate facial recognition match when that photo is compared to a selfie during onboarding.

The new NFC feature supports Data Groups 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13. Both that and the new dynamic document detector will be available in Innovatrics’ Android and iOS demo apps, which allow interested customers to familiarize themselves with the full onboarding toolkit.

Innovatrics first enabled offline NFC document scans with a Toolkit update in August. The company also added a Universal Passport Reader to the platform in September.
