ID.me Brings on New Chief Product Officer

December 20, 2021

ID.me is bringing on a new Chief Product Officer (CPO) to help drive its ongoing expansion efforts. The company is best known as a provider of selfie-based onboarding services, and now operates a digital identity network with more than 66 million individual members.

Stephen Benedict will oversee the company’s continued growth as the new CPO. Benedict joins the company following a stint at Amazon, where he spearheaded the creation and release of more personalized e-commerce experiences as a member of the product management team. His career also includes stops at Apple and AOL over a span of more than 20 years. He helped refine graphics and user interfaces at Apple, and helped scale the popular AIM instant messaging service while with AOL.

He will be expected to operate in a similar capacity at ID.me. The company recently introduced a new in-person identity verification service to supplement its remote offerings, and is generally hoping to deliver a more user-friendly experience as it works to increase its client base.

“Stephen is a brilliant product leader and technologist,” said ID.me founder and CEO Blake Hall. “His deep knowledge of AI and ML, along with his focus on personalizing technology, aligns precisely with our vision to empower consumers to control their own data and gain frictionless access to things they want.”

“I chose to come to ID.me because I’m inspired by the experiences digital identity makes possible,” added Benedict. “ID.me’s innovative approach to making every interaction more trusted and secure through public-private partnerships and best-of-breed technology is truly transformative. I’m excited to lead ID.me’s product teams to deliver frictionless and inclusive experiences for our users.”

In June, ID.me partnered with Yubico to allow members of the New York Air National Guard to order YubiKeys through the ID.me platform. The company’s Identity Gateway solution also received formal FedRAMP Authority to Operate later that same month.
