Goodix Provides In-Display Biometric Sensor for Vivo iQOO 3 5G Smartphone

February 26, 2020

Goodix Provides In-Display Biometric Sensor for Vivo iQOO 3 5G Smartphone

Goodix’s optical In-Display Fingerprint Sensor will be appearing in another smartphone. This time around, the sensor will enable biometric authentication in the Vivo iQOO 3 5G, which will feature Goodix’s Voice Communication Noise Cancellation technology in addition to the fingerprint sensor.

Of course, the iQOO 3 is not the first Vivo smartphone – or even the first 5G phone – to adopt Goodix’s technology. The fingerprint sensor was previously deployed in Vivo’s X30 5G series, as well as the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition and OPPO’s 5G-ready Reno3 and Reno3 Pro. The iQOO 3 continues that trend, and once again indicates that Goodix is increasingly turning its focus to next-generation 5G devices.

In the meantime, the use of the Voice Communication solution suggests that Goodix is finally starting to see a return on its investment in NXP’s Voice and Audio Solutions (VAS) business. Goodix acquired NXP’s VAS portfolio for an undisclosed sum back in August in an effort to diversify its component offerings for mobile devices.

The latest Vivo integration likely comes as welcome news given Goodix’s recent legal troubles. The company had accused Egis Technology of infringing on one of the 50 Goodix patents related to the in-display fingerprint sensor, but the Beijing Intellectual Property Court invalidated that patent earlier this month.
