Daon and American Airlines Testing New Travel Credential App

November 13, 2020

American Airlines is teaming up with Daon to pilot a new mobile app that will allow travelers to share immunity credentials. The app is called VeriFLY, and it will be tested on flights from Miami to Montego Bay and Kingston in Jamaica. The trial will begin on November 18.

Passengers who wish to use the app will first be asked to create a profile on their mobile device. After that, they will be able to input their flight information and their travel documents, in addition to the results of a negative COVID-19 test. The app will automatically cross-reference that information with the documentation and health requirements for people traveling to the destination country, and display a simple pass or fail message with respect to whether the information meets those requirements.

The two companies are hoping that the app will allow agents to process passengers more quickly. Those who use the app will be sent to an expedited entry lane in Miami’s North Terminal, and will only need to show the “pass” screen in the app to move through the checkpoint without handing over any physical documents.

For the moment, Jamaica is the only destination included in the program. However, American Airlines is hoping to expand service to other countries in the not-too-distant future.

“Piloting this new solution is a direct response to our customers’ increasing desire to explore more international travel opportunities,” said American Airlines President Robert Isom. “The app will help us deliver a more seamless travel experience as we support demand return and put customers’ minds at ease that they are fully prepared for their trip.”

The American Airlines pilot is Daon’s second in the air travel industry during the pandemic. The company is currently working with Denver International Airport to test contactless biometric screening solutions that are intended to boost confidence in air travel during the pandemic. Daon has also opened a new office in Singapore to extend its reach in the APAC region.
