EV Group and DELO are looking to expand their presence in the biometric authentication and facial recognition market through a new partnership that will lead to the production of better optical sensors. EV Group specializes in wafer-level optics (WLO), nanoimprint lithography, and lens molding, while DELO is a provider of industrial adhesives.
Together, the two companies will be able to leverage their expertise to manufacture optical devices for a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications. Their experience will reduce the time needed to prototype and launch new wafer-level optic products, which can then be deployed in smart cars, industrial settings, and consumer electronics.
“Together we can provide unique know-how in applying wafer-level processing technology to optical and photonics manufacturing,” said DELO Managing Director Robert Saller. “This collaboration will help us serve our customers as an application expert and premium partner.”
Much of the collaboration will take place at the NILPhotonics Competence Center, which is located at EVG headquarters in St. Florian, Austria. The Competence Center provides EVG partners with an open access incubator and state-of-the-art equipment to help them develop new WLO technologies.
“The NILPhotonics Competence Center addresses the industry need to develop products with short time to market and high confidentiality,” said EVG IP Director Markus Wimplinger. “We can operate as a central point to develop and establish decisive manufacturing steps for new production lines in close collaboration with process and equipment experts.”
WLO technology can be leveraged for a range of biometric applications, including iris scanning and optical fingerprint recognition in addition to facial recognition. It has also been deployed in surgical robots, heads-up displays, and time-of-flight and LiDAR technologies.
Representatives from EVG and DELO will be on hand at SEMICON Europa, which runs from November 12 to 15 at Messe Munich in Germany.
