A new report from the Secure Identity Alliance identifies the value of secure eServices, touting them as greatly beneficial in terms of trust and convenience, but especially as cost efficient. According to the report, which is available through the Alliance’s website, the implementation of these identified eServices are on track to save governments $50 billion by the end of the decade.
In addition to this substantial savings figure, the report explores the other, non-monetary benefits eService adoption promises. These are metrics less measurable in large numbers, but are key components to a safer and more secure future. Increased convenience, trust and citizen satisfaction are those, as well as private sector benefits like growth and innovation.
The projection is contingent on the building and implementation government created trust frameworks. The Secure Identity Alliance is mandated to uncover, develop and offer up new eIdentity and eDocument technology that this sort of framework depends on.
The Alliance’s end goal is sustainable world wide growth through the development and adoption of robust and beneficial trust frameworks and eServices. Supported by a board of directors comprised of 3M, Gemalto, Morpho (Safran) and Oberthur Technologies, the organization offers leadership to governments in a number of helpful ways.
At the heart of the many ways that the Secure Identity Alliance outlines its role in aiding governments are three key factors: Trust, which equates to strong authentication and secure identities for citizens and governments; Convenience, which is an aim in regards to efficiency and adoption, but also a positive side effect of widespread strong authentication; Inclusion, increasing access to services and voting rights through the ability to have a citizen identify herself regardless of language or literacy.
This once was a playing field for birth certificates, drivers licenses, passports and marriage certificates. The Secure Identity Alliance is proposing that the next step is here to be taken by pushing for an efficient and secure digital system that a government can offer its citizens in order to improve quality of life while saving big time by 2020.
